Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Optician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in ophthalmology and optical services, with a commitment to providing exceptional patient care. As an Optician, you will be responsible for fitting and dispensing eyewear, assisting patients in selecting frames, and ensuring that prescriptions are accurately filled. Your expertise in medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and retail sales will be essential in delivering a positive experience for our clients. The ideal candidate would exhibit the following characteristics and credentials:

Responsibilities

• Interpret prescriptions to provide appropriate eyewear solutions.
• Ensure accurate fitting of eyewear, including adjustments for comfort and functionality.
• Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and manage medical records efficiently.
• Utilize EMR system for documentation and patient management.
• Provide education to patients regarding proper eyewear care and usage.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care
• Handle retail sales transactions effectively, applying retail math skills to manage inventory and sales goals.
• Assisting patients select eyewear, and making lens recommendations based on the patients' glasses prescriptions
• Verifying routine vision benefits, and submitting claims for materials
• Taking measurements to order prescription eyewear, including monocular PD for distance, near and intermediate using a pupilometer, and seg hts for progressive, lined bifocal and trifocal lenses
• Ordering prescription eyeglass lenses, and verifying the accuracy of completed eyewear using a manual lensometer
• Reading and interpreting written eyeglass prescriptions, including transcribing between plus and minus cylinder forms, and creating single vision distance, intermediate and near prescriptions from a multifocal prescription
• Entering charges and applying payments utilizing AdvancedMD
• Reading and interpreting previous glasses orders and visit summaries using EHR system, in order to make recommendations for lenses based on previous history, and troubleshoot vision complaints based on diagnoses
• Maintaining orderly frame boards

Requirements

• Proven experience in optical settings or related fields such as ophthalmology or clinic experience.
• 2 years minimum experience as an optician
• Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to eye care.
• Experience with EMR systems
• Excellent customer service skills with a focus on retail management and sales strategies.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate medical records.
• Adaptable, Team player
• Above average written and oral communications skills Preferred:
