Automation Field Sales Engineer - OR, WA, or ID Full-time | Field-Based | Travel up to 50% A global manufacturer of industrial control and automation products is seeking an Automation Field Sales Engineer to support customers, drive growth, and expand OEM business across the Northwest. This role is ideal for someone who combines technical capability with consultative sales experience in automation, controls, or industrial equipment.
About the Role
You will manage all aspects of outside sales in your territory, building relationships at all levels of a customer's organization, identifying opportunities early in the design cycle, and supporting both OEM and end-user accounts. This role requires strong technical aptitude, consistent territory management, and the ability to influence product specifications through engineering conversations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a territory sales plan
- Prospect, grow, and support customers and distributors
- Expand OEM business in alignment with strategic goals
- Participate in customer design cycles and project discussions
- Assist with troubleshooting and technical support at customer sites
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams on custom needs
- Conduct product training, demos, and new product updates
- Manage distributor performance and drive product preference
- Maintain accurate CRM activity, forecasts, and reporting
- Monitor industry trends, competitors, and new technologies
Qualifications
- 3+ years in technical sales, field engineering, or related experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred (Engineering ideal), or equivalent work experience
- Technical understanding in areas such as:
- Machine control
- Safety systems
- Operator interfaces
- Panel design
- Automated guided vehicles (AGVs)
- Experience in B2B technical/industrial sales
- Proven ability to close business and manage complex sales cycles
- Familiarity with CRM systems and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work in industrial/manufacturing environments
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Ability to travel up to 50% Core Competencies
