Compensation

: $45,000$50,000 base + uncapped commission + competition bonuses The Role ATHENA Consulting is hiring an Account Manager to take ownership of an established Virginia government staffing account. This is a fully remote position with one exception: regular travel to meet clients in person across the Commonwealth. You'll inherit an active book of business, build face-to- face relationships with agency contacts, and grow the account beyond its current footprint. You'll also manage a dedicated recruiter who fills your reqs, so your focus stays on the client, not the sourcing. This is a strong fit for a full-desk recruiter ready to step out of sourcing and into account ownership. You already know how to run both sides of a desk this role lets you concentrate on the client half with recruiting support behind you.

What You'll Do

• Own the day-to-day relationship for an existing Virginia government account, serving as the primary point of contact for hiring managers, procurement officers, and program staff
• Travel throughout Virginia to meet clients on site regular in-person visits are core to the job, not occasional. Travel days are working days: you're expected to stay responsive to email, job orders, and your recruiter while on the road
• Expand business within the existing contract: identify new departments, hiring authorities, and requisition volume the account isn't currently capturing
• Take and qualify job orders, set expectations on rates, timelines, and candidate profiles
• Manage and direct one dedicated recruiter set priorities, review submittals, and hold the desk accountable to fill metrics
• Track and report on account performance, submittal-to-placement ratios, and pipeline health
• Ensure delivery stays compliant with contract terms, including pay rates, markups, and reporting requirements

What You Bring

• 2+ years in staffing, ideally as a full-desk recruiter or account manager
• Government staffing experience strongly preferred public sector procurement, contract vehicles, and agency hiring cycles work differently from commercial, and we're not looking for a private-sector-only background
• Willingness and ability to travel across Virginia regularly; valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
• Self-directed work habits this role is fully remote outside of travel, so you'll need to manage your own schedule, stay accessible during business hours, and keep the desk moving from wherever you are
• Comfort leading client conversations in person this role is not phone-and-email only
• Experience directing or mentoring a recruiter, or clear readiness to take that on
• Working knowledge of an ATS (Bullhorn preferred)
