Position Summary
: The Physician Liaison plays a critical role in driving growth at Colorado Retina Associates by cultivating and expanding a broad, community-based referral network across the Denver Metro area. As a practice that is 90% referral-driven with no single dominant source, success in this role depends on the ability to build, maintain, and scale relationships across hundreds of referring offices and providers. This is a highly field-based position responsible for consistent, high- frequency outreach to optometrists, ophthalmologists, and related specialties. The ideal candidate is relationship-oriented, self-directed, and thrives in a high-volume, decentralized referral environment, with a strong focus on measurable activity, results and alignment with physician and operational leadership. Duties
: Referral Network Development & Growth (50%)
- Build and manage relationships across a large referral base (1,000+ providers and offices)
- Develop and execute territory-specific outreach plans to increase referral volume across multiple channels
- Identify and activate new referral opportunities among optometrists, ophthalmologists, and related specialties
- Drive consistent pipeline growth through high-volume, in-person provider engagement
- Introduce new physicians and services to the referring community Relationship Management & Engagement (30%)
- Serve as the primary external representative of Colorado Retina Associates to referring providers and office staff
- Maintain a high cadence of touchpoints (in-person visits, meals, calls, email) across a wide network
- Strengthen relationships with existing referral partners while re-engaging inactive or declining sources
- Position CRA as a trusted, responsive, and clinically excellent partner in retinal care Outreach Strategy, Reporting & Market Intelligence (10%)
- Track and report outreach activity, referral trends, and conversion metrics using CRM tools
- Analyze data to identify growth opportunities, referral leakage, and underserved areas
- Provide real-time market feedback including competitor activity and provider sentiment Brand Building & Cross-Functional Collaboration (5%)
- Partner with marketing, clinical leadership, and operations to align outreach with organizational goals
- Support development of targeted messaging and materials for referring providers
- Represent CRA at industry and community events to enhance visibility and reputation Events & Education (5%)
- Plan and execute continuing education (CE/CME) events for referring providers
- Coordinate sponsored educational dinners and programs with industry partners
- Organize physician meet-and-greets, community events, and practice-hosted educational sessions
- Manage event logistics including vendor coordination, promotion, and follow-up
- Represent CRA at industry and community events and conferences, to enhance visibility and reputation Day-to-Day Activities
- Conduct daily in-person visits across assigned territory (local travel required)
- Maintain a structured outreach schedule across a high volume of accounts
- Document interactions and track referral activity
- Collaborate internally to ensure exceptional provider and patient experience
- Support onboarding and market integration of new physicians Job
Requirements
:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Bachelor's Degree required or a combination of years and relative experience. Marketing/Communications, Business Administration or Healthcare degree/experience; highly desired.
- Two or more years of healthcare sales, physician outreach, and/or business development experience
- Experience with data analytics and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Hubspot, etc.)
- Demonstrated success managing and growing large, complex referral networks
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a field-based role
- Prior pharmaceutical or healthcare experience, ideally working with or in optometry and/or ophthalmology practices
- Understanding of healthcare referral dynamics and compliance considerations (e.g., Stark Law)
- Experience planning and accrediting provider-facing educational events (CE/CME)
