Position
Overview
We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Optical Assistant (in all locations) who can balance customer service, eyewear sales, and technical accuracy. This role is critical to keeping the optical department running smoothly from helping patients choose the right glasses, to ensuring every job is ordered, checked, and dispensed correctly the first time. Responsibilities
1. Eyewear Sales & Patient Experience Guide patients in selecting frames and lenses that fit their prescription, lifestyle, and budget Clearly explain lens options and coatings in a way patients understand Recommend upgrades and maximize each sale while delivering excellent customer service Adjust, fit, and troubleshoot eyeglasses at pickup for comfort and proper alignment 2. Ordering & Job Accuracy - HIGH PRIORITY Accurately enter and submit lens orders to labs Double-check all prescriptions, measurements, and lens selections before ordering Track and manage all incoming and outgoing lab orders and follow up on delays or issues Check in all orders upon arrival and verify prescription, proper lens type, coatings, frame integrity 3. Lensometer Use & Prescription Verification Use a lensometer to read and verify prescriptions for incoming and existing lenses Identify errors in sphere, cylinder, axis, and prism Compare lab results to original order and prescription Troubleshoot issues before patient pickup 4. Inventory & Product Management Monitor frame boards and restock best-selling styles Track best-selling products and assist with reordering Keep displays clean, organized, and visually appealing Conduct periodic inventory counts 5. Administrative & Operational Support Communicate clearly with doctors, opticians, and front desk Help resolve patient concerns professionally Assist with insurance verification and basic billing when needed Keep the optical area clean, organized, and compliant with office standards
Qualifications
Previous optical experience required. Familiarity with lens types, coatings, and prescriptions Ability to operate optical equipment such as a lensometer Moderate computer skills Skills & Competencies Sales ability with a patient-focused approach Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Team-oriented with a positive attitude Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Excellent communication and customer service abilities Physical
Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods Manual dexterity for handling small optical tools and frames Visual acuity to inspect lenses and eyewear Able to lift some packages up to 15 pounds Performance Expectations Minimal ordering errors Consistent contribution to optical sales Jobs completed and checked in a timely manner Positive patient feedback and repeat business Strong teamwork and dependability What Success Looks Like
- Expectation: You are comfortable selling and hitting daily/weekly sales goals.
- Mistakes cost time and money accuracy is critical.
- You don't need to be perfect on day one but you must be willing to learn quickly and use it daily.
