Membership and Group Sales Manager Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose Position Title: Membership and Group Sales Manager Department: Development and Marketing Reports To: Director of Marketing and Communications Status: Full Time, 100% on-site, Exempt Salary Range: $73,000 - $80,000 DOE
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Membership and Group Sales Manager drives earned revenue through group reservations, birthday parties, and memberships. This role will develop and implement strategies to grow this $1M portfolio, while ensuring a seamless, high-quality experience for all visitors.
Essential Duties

Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of group reservations for school field trips, camps, and community organizations, including logistics, updating records in the database, and communicating policies. Partner with the visitor engagement team to smoothly orient and check-in groups.
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, educators, and community partners through consistent communication, follow-ups, and outreach to encourage repeat visits and long-term engagement.
- Manage all aspects of birthday party reservations, collect and record deposit payments, and collaborate with the visitor engagement team on party execution.
- Manage approximately $1M in annual earned revenue; develop and implement strategies for year-over-year growth.
- Provide ongoing support for outreach and marketing efforts by assisting with on-site and off-site events, including setting up booths, engaging families, and facilitating hands-on activities that represent the museum experience.
- Analyze visitor feedback and trends to provide actionable insights for improving museum programs and visitor satisfaction.
- Support additional event planning and operational needs as they arise, contributing to a collaborative and flexible team environment.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Marketing & Communications or Chief Development & Marketing Officer in support of CDM operations.
Qualifications
Required
- Education: Associate/Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Candidates with education or experience in fields such as Education, Child development, Museum studies, Communications, Theater, arts, or STEM fields are encouraged to apply.
- Experience: 3+ years in nonprofit marketing or development preferred.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Exceptional customer service skills with a warm, welcoming, and approachable demeanor
- Strong verbal communication and active listening abilities
- Sales experience, preferably in a goal oriented environment
- Ability to engage with children and adults in an age-appropriate, clear, and friendly manner
- Comfort using computers, tablets, and basic office applications such as GSuite and/or Microsoft Office
- Ability to learn museum-specific systems and procedures quickly
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Experience with CRM systems - Blackbaud tools preferred
- Ability to leverage data and develop data-informed strategies
- Self-starter who is able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Knowledge of local school districts or past experience working with schools

Requirements
- Ability to move throughout museum spaces and event environments.
- Ability to lift and transport photography/video equipment and materials up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during events and productions.
