Overview

We are excited to announce a rewarding career opportunity at Drum Center of Portsmouth, the world's largest independently owned drum store. We are currently seeking a dedicated full-time Sales Associate to join our team. An extensive background in percussion and deep knowledge of drums is strictly required for this position. While prior sales experience is strongly preferred, we will train the right drum expert. As a key member of our sales team, you will serve as the primary point of contact, processing sales orders in person, over the phone, and via email. A core responsibility is to provide buyers with the highest standard of specialized product knowledge and expertise, guiding them through their shopping journey to secure the perfect gear. This role also involves proactively generating and pursuing sales leads, maintaining strong client relationships, and demonstrating proficiency with our CRM software. Your drumming expertise and communication skills will be crucial in hitting sales targets and creating an environment that encourages repeat business. Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and assist them in locating products, answering highly technical gear questions, and driving purchasing decisions.
• Conduct engaging, expert product demos on acoustic kits, electronic drums, cymbals, and snare drums to showcase features, tuning differences, and benefits to close sales.
• Operate our POS (Point of Sale) system efficiently for transactions, including cash handling, credit card processing, and receipts.
• Upsell related products or accessories to maximize sales opportunities while ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Maintain attractive merchandise displays through merchandising and stocking efforts to promote featured items and seasonal promotions.
• Ensure shelves are well-stocked, organized, and tidy by performing regular stocking duties and inventory checks.
• Demonstrate excellent phone etiquette when handling inquiries or taking orders remotely.
• Manage retail math accurately for transactions, discounts, and returns to ensure precise cash handling.
• Assist with supervising team members during busy periods or as assigned, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Provide exceptional customer service by listening actively, resolving issues promptly, and building lasting relationships.

Qualifications

• Required: Deep, comprehensive knowledge of drum brands, vintage gear, cymbals, tuning techniques, and percussion accessories.
• Required: Active or extensive background as a drummer, percussionist, or drum technician.
• Strongly Preferred: Proven sales track record with POS systems and sales procedures in a retail environment.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to engage drummers and musicians effectively both in person and over the phone.
• Demonstrated ability to perform retail math accurately for sales transactions and inventory management.
• Experience conducting high-level product demos that highlight nuanced sound features and tonal benefits convincingly to incentivize buyers.
• Excellent communication skills with a confident sales posture and professional phone etiquette.
• Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment while maintaining strict attention to detail. Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week
