Overview

We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, and customer-focused Dispensing Optician to join our team. In this role, you will be the face of our optical department, assisting patients with frame selection, precision lens fittings, frame adjustments, and order processing. You'll bring a blend of technical accuracy, style awareness, and warm patient communication to every interaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Styling & Selection: Guide patients through choosing frames that fit their lifestyle, prescription, face shape, and personal style.
• Lens & Coating Recommendations: Educate patients on premium lens designs, anti-reflective coatings, photochromics, high-index options, and specialty lenses.
• Precision Fitting & Adjustments: Take accurate facial measurements (PD, segment heights, fitting heights) and perform frame alignments, repairs, and custom adjustments for optimal comfort and optics.
• Optical Lab & Order Management: Place frame and lens orders with optical labs, perform quality assurance inspections on incoming jobs, and notify patients upon arrival.
• Insurance & Billing Support: Verify vision insurance benefits (e.g., VSP), process claims, and clearly explain patient out-of-pocket costs and eyewear packages.
• Inventory Management: Assist with frame board management, vendor relations, styling updates, and maintaining a clean, welcoming optical area. Schedule & Hours
• Weekly Hours: Flexible schedule (approx. 3240 hours/week for Full-Time; 2028 hours/week for Part-Time).
• Weekend Requirement: Saturdays from 9:00 AM 2:00 PM (Saturdays are one of our most lively patient days, offering great connection with our working families!).

Qualifications

& Skills

• Experience: 1+ years of experience as a Dispensing Optician or Optical Assistant preferred (ABO certification is a plus, but hands-on experience and willingness to learn are highly valued).
• Optical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of lens types, materials, coatings, frame adjustments, and optical measurements.
• Communication Skills: Warm, friendly, and patient-centered communication with children and adults alike.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous accuracy when taking measurements, placing lab orders, and checking incoming job quality.
• Tech-Savvy: Comfortable navigating practice management software, EHR, and vision insurance portals.
